Holocaust and Genocide Studies Certificate

Program Statement

The Certificate in Holocaust and Genocide Studies lays a vital historical foundation for understanding the causes, impacts, and legacies of the Holocaust, genocide, and incidents of mass atrocity. The certificate provides students in a diverse range of academic disciplines with an in-depth knowledge of the process of genocide by providing tailored course materials, high-impact practices, and sound pedagogical strategies provided by highly trained and thoughtful faculty. Students who successfully complete this certificate will look at the world through a lens of empathy and speak out for those living under dangerous conditions and oppression.

After Bristol

Students may choose to transfer to a college or university that includes a program in History , Education, or Holocaust and Genocide Studies, such as the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Salem State University, Brown University, the University of Connecticut, or the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 

  1. Explain the process of genocide to interdisciplinary audiences.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of genocidal practices across times and culture.  
  3. Describe the interplay of economics, politics, culture, diplomacy, and technology on the process of genocide.  
  4. Apply tools gained from the study of past genocides to an analysis of the present and prediction for the future.
