Program Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 

  1. Discuss the use of biotechnology in various sectors including agriculture, medicine, forensics, manufacturing, and the environment.

  2. Explain the basics of a cell’s structure, function, and biochemical processes.

  3. Discuss basic molecular biology techniques, such as genetic engineering and molecular cloning, and discuss their industrial uses and ethical considerations.

  4. Demonstrate proficiency in following experimental protocols (or standard operating procedures), collecting data, and formulating conclusions based upon the data.

  5. Maintain a laboratory notebook and communicate laboratory activities and results to others.

  6. Design experiments using the basic steps of the scientific method.

  7. Read and analyze a primary research article.
