ESL 123 : Advanced English Vocabulary and Reading Skills
This course is designed to develop students' academic English vocabulary and reading comprehension skills to prepare the student for college-level work. Prerequisite: Completion of ESL 013 with a C- or better or permission of the instructor, or test score of 81-120. Three lecture hours per week. Instructional Support Fee applies.
Course Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the steps of a reading process.
2. Employ effective strategies to build academic English vocabulary.
3. Demonstrate comprehension of a variety of readings in English, including college-level materials.
4. Identify main ideas and major details.
5. Analyze readings in a cultural and/or historical context.
6. Critically respond to a reading through oral and written expression.
